Cancelation Policies: Why they are important for us and for you

Hello AB Community!

It's Melynda, the owner and Captain of Anchor Barre, and I thought I would take a moment and explain the reasons behind our cancelation policy.  I get asked about it quite often, and if you are new to boutique studio life, you may not realize how it actually benefits you as the member, your instructors, and the studio itself.
Our policy is very similar to the policies of other studios who are similar to us.  Individual studios have their own cancelation windows that work better for them, as each studio is unique.  Please keep in mind we are NOT like the big box gyms - our business model and approach with our clients is VERY different from them, on purpose!

So why are cancelation windows important for you, the client?  That's an easy one - accountability!  The window is to keep you accountable to yourself - so your future, less-motivated self doesn't just cancel from class because your couch and Snuggie are calling your name when you hit the afternoon wall at work.  The NUMBER ONE reason that people fail at workout routines is because they can't make themselves show up.  So, unless you really don't mind losing your class credits or shelling out 10 bucks to skip class and sit on your couch, a cancelation window will really help you keep your class commitments.

Next reason: our instructors take the time to plan and tailor their classes around our members.  Planning a class for 15 members who love to be pushed for a workout is very different than planning a class for 6 people who have never taken barre...and everything in between.  Our instructors make adjustments based on who is signed up for class, and having the cancelation window helps to insure that everyone who comes to class is getting the best experience.

Lastly, the studio does everything it can to accommodate our members...but at the end of the day, we are a business.   All businesses have expectations for their customers and clients, and our little studio is no exception.  The beautiful thing is that when clients meet our expectations, they also meet their wellness goals - everyone wins!  You can't work on your wellness without coming to class, and we can't hold classes without clients in them.  See? Win, win!

With all this being said, I also know that this is Life and well - shit happens.  If you have an actual emergency and can't make class, just let me know!  I'm not going to take your class credit from you if your kid just threw up in the tub, your husband needs stitches, or someone just crashed into your car while it was parked in your driveway (all real reasons clients have texted me over the years...you get the idea).  I'm not going to charge you 10 bucks if you just tested positive for COVID, your car got a flat, or you woke up feeling like you got hit by a truck.  Text me, girl!

Just so everyone is on the same page, here is our cancelation policy, simplified for quick reference:
